Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that many areas of Sindh and Balochistan are still submerged in flood water due to which water-borne diseases are increasing in the area.
The Prime Minister said this in a meeting with a delegation of Chinese disaster management experts in Islamabad on Wednesday.
In the meeting, the problems faced by the flood victims and strategies to reduce their suffering were discussed.
The Chinese delegation visited flood-prone areas of the country to provide technical assistance to local authorities on short, medium and long-term projects for flood forecasting and infrastructure development.
The delegation told the Prime Minister that they have formed working groups to cooperate with Pakistani counterparts to take flood prevention measures.
The working groups will submit a detailed strategy for the rehabilitation of flood-affected areas and people to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other concerned agencies by October 21.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the trial of Chinese flood experts which will help Pakistan fight disaster and prevent future large-scale disasters.
He thanked China for its unwavering support to the flood-hit nation.
He added that this is a good example of the long-standing relationship between Pakistan and China.
He suggested the Chinese experts to sign a disaster management cooperation agreement with the Pakistani government before returning home.
