The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has extended by two weeks the suspension order of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to de-notify Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member National Assembly Abdul Shakoor Shad.
On Wednesday, Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minullah heard the petition against accepting Shakur Shad’s resignation.
The petitioner’s counsel told the court that the member of the National Assembly was barred from attending the National Assembly (NA) session and requested the Chief Justice to order the authorities to stop the act.
The Chief Justice of the IHC rejected the plea saying that he respects the Speaker of Parliament and the legislature.
The Chief Justice remarked that the Speaker should consult the National Assembly Abdul Shakoor to ask him about the decision regarding the membership of the Assembly.
The Deputy Attorney General told the court that the Speaker of the National Assembly returned yesterday and would look into the matter.
He requested the court to give two weeks’ time to resolve the matter.
