Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that general elections will be held in October 2023.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad on Wednesday, he criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan for demanding early elections.

The federal minister said that while the general elections will be held in October 2023, it cannot be held this year as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will require four months for the delimitation of constituencies and polling cannot be held before that. He said that the election date has been announced to fulfill Imran’s wish.

He said that if Imran Khan wants to record a peaceful protest, he can do it, but he will not allow Islamabad to be suppressed. There is even a court order not to allow anyone to enter the red zone without permission, the minister said.

The minister suggested that Imran should stop the sit-in and start preparing for the election.
