Echoing a similar move in Punjab, newly appointed Sindh Governor Kamran Tesori on Wednesday proposed amendments to the Nikah Nama, Nikah Form or Nikah Nama between Muslim couples.
In a letter written to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Tesori urged Shah to consider taking steps to express his love and devotion to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) like the Punjab government and to amend the existing marriage certificate (Nikah Nama). Amend Nikah Form/Marriage Certificate). A part of proclaiming Khatam-ul-Nabieen Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Governor Sindh further said that Khatman Nabubat is a fundamental part of the faith of every Muslim and the Chief Minister of Sindh should take necessary steps in this regard.
Earlier this year, the Punjab Assembly had passed a resolution and added the declaration of Khatm Nabubat in the marriage certificate.
In Punjab, about 2.23 percent of the population of 109 million are considered non-Muslims, according to the 2017 census. It has a population of about 2.45 million. Majority of them are Christians while there are minor numbers of Hindus, Ahmadis and other Scheduled Castes and other religions like Parsis.
About 9.65 percent or about 4.6 million people in Sindh are non-Muslims. An overwhelming majority of them are Hindus, followed by Christians, Ahmadis, Scheduled Castes and Parsis, among other religions.
