The government has decided to bring a motion of no confidence against the Deputy Chairman Senate Mirza Muhammad Afridi.
A resolution in this regard is likely to be submitted to the Senate Secretariat at any time.
According to sources, the government has the support of over senators in the upper house of parliament.
He claimed that the ruling coalition has a clear majority in the Senate as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has the support of only 33 lawmakers in the House.
After the no-confidence motion is successful, the coalition parties will decide on the new Deputy Speaker.
Awami National Party and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam have become active in seeking the Deputy Speaker’s seat.
Mirza Muhammad became the Deputy Chairman Senate in March. He was nominated by then Prime Minister Imran Khan.
He is the first person to be elected Deputy Chairman Senate from former FATA.
Afridi, who hails from Khyber’s Bara district, secured 54 votes to defeat the joint candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) JUI-F’s Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Hydari.
