Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell only intended to have one child.
Deeks, 47, recently appeared on The Endless Honeymoon podcast hosted by Natasha Liggero and Moshe Kasher. During the interview, the father of two talked about how he and his wife were content with one child but eventually changed their minds.
The couple have daughters Delta, 7, and Lincoln, 9.
Sharing advice with a caller discussing growing their family, Shepard said she and Bell “didn’t want another child, as I’m sure you guys are feeling right now.”
“You should feel so satisfied and so full, you’re not craving anything,” she says of the time after having her first child.
“For one, we travel a lot. It’s not fair to bring this little human everywhere and only deal with adults. We owe it to him to give him a playmate to travel with us,” she shared. “We love him enough to do something that we really don’t want to do, which is another because we were so happy with just one.”
“Our kids are already beyond belief,” Shepard added.
“It tickles both of us coming from very modest backgrounds,” he continued. “So to at least make up for this spoiled b—–, my first-born, lives in the same room with another person and has to share everything, as I have to compromise and share.” And the strength of the hurt was needed, because I wasn’t going to give it. It was in other ways. So, I, we, just thought it would be really helpful to make him a better person to deal with somebody else.”
Reflecting on her decision to have two children, Sheppard noted, “It’s ironic, because we pretty much stopped traveling.”
“We had two kids and all of a sudden, we were like, ‘Oh, we’re never leaving town to work again,'” she explained. “So the irony isn’t even that – the reason we had – didn’t work out either. But that doesn’t matter.”
