Police arrested at least 34 suspects in the lynching of two telecommunication employees in Karachi on Saturday with the help of videos obtained from bystanders.
Investigations into the lynching incident also revealed that the victims were held hostage for half an hour before being killed.
Investigators said the victims, Ayman and Ishaq, showed their service cards to the angry mob, which they were unable to read.
Later, the mob also mistook the ‘first aid box’ in the victim’s car and thought it contained surgical instruments for organ retrieval.
Misguided, the accusing mob brutally murdered the victims.
Lynching
Two employees of a telecommunication company were killed by an angry mob in Karachi’s Machhar Colony on Friday.
Kemari SSP Fida Hussain Januri said the victims were reportedly visiting the area to check the signal strength but rumors spread that they were trying to abduct children.
On hearing the rumours, many local residents attacked the officials of the telecom company and brutally tortured them.
The injuries were so severe that both men eventually succumbed.
A police team reached the spot after a while to save the slain officials.
Police officials said that they have recorded the statement of an eyewitness.
Later, the police said that they arrested three suspects involved in the incident.
Deputy Inspector General South Zone Irfan Baloch while talking to JEE News said that he is investigating the matter.
“The absence of their valuables, including laptops and cellular phones, points to reports that they were first robbed and then beaten up by an angry mob,” he said.
Baloch further said that the review of some of the videos made by the spectators helped them in identifying and arresting the main accused Abdul Ghafoor and his accomplices.
