Polling in NA-45 Karam By-Election is Underway

Peshawar: Polling is going on in NA 45 Karam by-election where PTI Chairman Imran Khan is among the candidates.

Polling started at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm without any break.

16 candidates including PTI chief Imran Khan, Jameel Khan of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) and Sher Muhammad Khan of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) are contesting the elections.

A tough contest is expected between Imran Khan and PDM-backed candidate Jameel Khan.

According to an Election Commission spokesperson, there are 198,618 registered voters – 111,349 men and 87,269 women – in the constituency.

According to the spokesman, voters will cast their vote at 143 polling stations, of which 119 have been declared highly sensitive and 24 sensitive.

District Police Officer (DPO) Karam Arbab Shafiullah said that the security arrangements for the by-elections in NA-45 have been completed and the transportation of election materials has started.

He said that 2100 policemen have been deployed on polling duty.

The DPO has asked the political leaders and activists to follow the rules and cooperate with the police to maintain peace during the election today.
