Everyone, if this is happening in your bedroom, where’s the line?”
Call to Respect Privacy
The couple has been vocal about invasion of privacy by Indian media and fans. He previously called out several publications for sharing photos of his two-year-old daughter Wamika without his consent.
In January this year, Wamika was seen on live camera celebrating her father Kohli’s half-century in the India vs South Africa match. Screenshots of the broadcast were shared online and went viral despite the couple’s request not to photograph their daughter.
Later, Sharma revealed on an Instagram story how he was “caught safe” and would appreciate it if his daughter’s privacy was respected “for reasons explained earlier.” When the photos went viral, fans called publications and accounts asking them to delete the photos. However, some also questioned why the Sultan star was not careful enough.
To this, Sharma and Kohli clarified that they did not mean for Wamika to be filmed and their stance on their daughter’s exposure to the media remains unchanged.
“We realize that the photos of our daughter were taken at the stadium yesterday and have since been widely shared,” he said in a statement. “We want to let everyone know that we were caught off-guard and didn’t know the camera was on us. Our stand and request on this matter will remain the same. We would really appreciate it if Wamika’s photos are shared with them. Not clicked and published for reasons we explained earlier.
Last year, the actor had an angry message on social media after photos of her and her husband sitting on a balcony were posted online.
She indicated in her post that she had already discussed such incidents and was disappointed that they did not help, reported Hindustan Times. “Despite said photographer and requesting publication, they still invade our privacy. People! Stop it now!” He wrote on Instagram attaching the infamous photo.
In 2021, the couple wrote a thank you note to media personnel for choosing not to publish family photos. “As parents, we want privacy for our child and do our best to give her the opportunity to live her life independently of media and social media. Since she is older, we do not restrict her movement. can be applied and hence your cooperation is required so please be patient in this matter,” the duo wrote in the note.
