WhatsApp has started testing a new feature “Messages with yourself” to enable users to send messages themselves. It is currently only available to beta users.
Although sending messages to your cell phone number was always an option, there was no separate chat window in the contact list for this purpose.
Users create groups with just one member to share media files or take notes.
However, the latest update highlights your own chat box when you start a WhatsApp chat using your phone number by adding “Send message to yourself” as the caption of the conversation.

Additionally, WhatsApp will display your phone number in its contact list for quick access.
“If you send a message on chat with your phone number, it will always sync with your other connected devices as this is not an unsupported feature when using multi-device,” reports WaBetaInfo.
This feature will be made available to the public in the next several days. In the following app version, WhatsApp will extend the functionality that allows users to “see their phone number in the contact list”.
