The audit report of the Ministry of Communications for the financial year 2021-22 has revealed a mega corruption scandal worth more than 100 million rupees during the tenure of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) audited the records of postal services under the Ministry of Communications when PTI’s Murad Saeed headed it.

It said that the ministry could not submit records of expenditure of more than Rs 20 billion and only Rs 5 billion of the total expenditure of Rs 26 billion could be audited.

The report also highlighted 28 cases of irregularities in Head Office and General Post Office (GPO) amounting to over Rs 50 million.

It stated that Rs 10.70 million were illegally withdrawn from special savings accounts of pensioners.

The audit report stated that with the connivance of the staff of the GPOs, more than Rs 40 million was withdrawn as pension through forged signatures and forged affidavits.

Some cases were referred to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the police but no departmental action was taken, the report said.
