Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Pakistan suffered a lot, mainly due to massive floods this year due to climate change. As the Pakistani government faces several challenges, he appealed to the international community to support the country.
Speaking to an American news channel on Monday, the minister said that the world has to solve the problems caused by climate change.
He added that it is the joint responsibility of the international community to find solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change. He said that Pakistan had faced the most devastating floods this year, adding that global climate change was a major challenge. He said that Pakistan is among the countries affected by climate change.
He said that Pakistan contributes less than one percent to the global carbon footprint. However, it was the 8th most stressed country on the planet, which is an incredible injustice to the country, he stressed.
“We bear the brunt of climate change,” he explained.
He said that after the flood, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres visited Pakistan and appealed to the world to help the flood victims.
The foreign minister also mentioned the Ukraine war and said that the Ukraine crisis had an impact on Pakistan’s economy. He asserted that Pakistan Prime Minister’s visit to Russia was misunderstood.
“Across the political divide, Pakistan has decided to remain neutral in this conflict. We do not want to be dragged into another conflict. We have many devastating issues to come home to,” he said. said
“It is irrelevant what went wrong in the war in Ukraine,” he said. He said that as a result of the war in Ukraine, Pakistan is facing food security issues and rising fuel prices.
He said that he condemned the attack on Imran Khan’s life in no uncertain terms. “There is a need for an independent, fair and impartial investigation that will bring out the facts,” he said.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan has won the war against terrorism. He said that a stable Afghanistan is essential for the security and development of the entire region.
Bilawal said there is a consensus that the conflict in Ukraine must end so that the world can focus on the threats facing humanity – an issue that everyone around the world must unite to tackle climate change.
