Islamabad Police has said in the letter that the routes to and from the airport are of utmost importance. Articles 97/149 and 151 give the police the right to protect the airport and its routes, the letter said.

It added that the federal airport and routes were administratively under the jurisdiction of Punjab, noting that diplomats and foreign dignitaries use the said route to access the capital.

He maintained that the ‘unfortunate incident’ at the airport could bring the country into disrepute, urging the federal administration to issue directives to the Chief Secretary Punjab and the Police Chief as per the Constitution.

“The capital police should be allowed to clear the roads with full authority”, the letter said, adding that all provinces should be instructed to provide access to the three major toll plazas.
