London: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif have vowed not to bow to PTI’s pressure, especially on their key demand for early elections, sources told JEE News.
The meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz and his brother at Avonfield Flats came four hours after the younger Sharif arrived in the British capital after completing a visit to Egypt for the COP27 climate conference.
Sources said that only Nawaz, Shahbaz, Maryam, Sulaiman Sharif, Hasan and Hussain Nawaz and the rest of the family members were present in the meeting which lasted for more than three hours. No one was asked by the party to join the meeting.
Nawaz told Shahbaz to “continue to do your best to bring Pakistan out of the economic crisis” and “not to succumb to any pressure”.
Sources said the brothers ensured that the elections would be held on time and that PTI chief Imran Khan’s march on Islamabad would be dealt with legally.
When the Prime Minister arrived for the meeting, he spoke to the waiting media and said that Pakistan had won the match against New Zealand, Alhamdulillah. I pray that Pakistan will win in the final as well. Congratulations to the entire nation for this win.”
When asked by JEE News whether he would discuss the appointment of the next army chief with the PML-N supremo, the prime minister said: “I have come today to meet my elder brother and my family. I am meeting them and their children after a long time.
The prime minister did not share any other details.
After the meeting ended, he was again pressed on when the next Chief of Army Staff would be appointed but the prime minister again dodged the question and said: “It is for the comfort of my brothers, my nieces and nephews and Aram. Also had a family meeting. Family members also joined. We had lunch, chat show and congratulated you all on Pakistan’s win.
Shahbaz Sharif will meet Nawaz and some party leaders today (Thursday).
This is the third visit to London after Shahbaz Sharif became the Prime Minister in April. Nawaz Sharif’s visit to London comes two weeks before Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa’s tenure ends. The Army Chief is scheduled to retire on November 29.
It has been reported that Shahbaz Sharif will consult with Nawaz Sharif on the appointment of Pakistan Army Chief.
