LONDON/NAIROBI: The Emu Dump Kyonya shooting range in Magadi, where Arshad Sharif spent his last hours, has been closed for business by Kenyan authorities as investigations into the journalist’s murder continue, local sources have confirmed. .
A US security firm has pulled out of a contract with the emu dump, and the local police authority has canceled or suspended all warrants for training and shooting exercises with the site, the sources confirmed.
Several other companies have suspended their contracts with the shooting range while the investigation continues. The site is owned by two Karachi-based businessmen — Waqar Ahmed and Khurram Ahmed — who own and operate several real estate projects in the African country.
Local police sources confirmed that the owners of the shooting range were asked to stop all operations. Police sources confirmed that several local authorities used to organize shooting practices at the place.
One of the people handling Ahmed Brothers’ business affairs confirmed that the shooting site is currently not operational. Still, he said the site would soon be open for business to the general public and companies.
“We have been ordered by the government authorities to stop our operations. The firing that resulted in the death of Arshad Sharif had nothing to do with the Emu dump. It was a sad incident but we have been told to stop our business activities.
“We have canceled our booking for now,” said the source. During a site visit, a staff member requested privacy, saying staff were on site, but “we are not taking any more bookings until further notice.”
AmmoDump social media pages have not been updated and continue to invite bookings and business. However, when contacted through the WhatsApp number advertised on his social media, there was no response.
JEE News revealed this week that when Arshad Sharif arrived with Khurram, American instructors were at the site and spent one night and two days at the site. The presence of Americans at this location raises questions, but the activities of American security agencies in Kenya are well known and established.
The United States and Kenya established diplomatic relations in 1964. The two upgraded their relationship to a strategic partnership in 2018. The two countries work together on counter-terrorism projects and local security and cooperate on almost all issues.
American influence in the country is so strong that the Kenyan government abducted the Akasha brothers – Baktash Akasha Abdullah and his brother Ibrahim Akasha Abdullah – from their homes in an affluent Nairobi neighborhood. Allowed to be extradited to America for sentencing. Importation of drugs and illegal production of drugs with intent to sell in the United States.
One of the co-accused Okasha brothers is Pakistani gold trader Muhammad Asif Hafeez, whose story has been highlighted by this publication over the past two years. Asif Hafeez remains in the high-security Belmarsh prison, where he is fighting a US extradition request.
Another co-accused, Indian national Vicky Goswami, husband of actress Mamata Kulkarni, was arrested in Nairobi and taken to the US in the same unusual rendition, but has since turned his back on his previous business ventures. has become an approved sight for partner
Khurram and Waqar launched the AmmoDump range about seven years ago. According to the site’s website, it offers recreational activities such as shooting practices, police and firearms training, military shooting training, bike and motorcycling, and weekend and weekday camping. There is no electricity on site, and it uses a generator.
The shooting site is spread over several acres of vast land where there is no human life for several kilometers in any direction. AmmoDump highlights its status as a premier reconnaissance site for security personnel looking to improve their shooting skills in combat. It offers services to governments, individuals and private security companies. Khurram and Waqar did not respond to the questions.
