According to the police, an eight-year-old boy selling toys in Karachi’s Clifton area was allegedly shot dead by a private security guard on Sunday.
Boat Basin Police Station House Officer (SHO) Naseer Tanuli told JEE News that Muhammad Umar was allegedly killed in an “accidental [gun]shot” by security guard John Muhammad at the Bilawal House roundabout. .
“He used to sell toys in the area,” she said.
Tanoli said that immediately after the shooting, the guard took the injured boy on a motorcycle to the nearby Dr. Ziauddin Hospital, but the eight-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
“The guard then left the body near the railway tracks in the same area and escaped,” Tanoli said.
He further said that the police have registered a case of murder against Muhammad on the complaint of the victim’s father. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant, Khadim Hussain, stated that he used to drive rickshaws to earn his livelihood and originally belonged to Rohri, Sukkur. He was on the defensive when his eldest son told him that Mohammad Omar had allegedly been shot by a restaurant guard.
Hussain said that he reached the spot with his wife and elder son but Umar could not be traced. “Two people sitting in the restaurant took the family to the Jackson police station where the child’s body was lying in the ambulance.”
Meanwhile, according to the spokesman, the administrator of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has taken notice of the murder and has asked for a report from the police. He directed the police to arrest the accused immediately.
Wahab promised that justice will be provided to the heirs. “No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands,” the organizer vowed, sympathizing with the bereaved family.
