ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif – who was ill for the past few days – has succumbed to the deadly corona virus.
In a tweet, the federal minister said that Prime Minister Shehbaz was unwell for the last 2 days and after consulting the doctors, he was tested for Corona.
The minister appealed to the nation and Muslim League (N) workers to pray for the recovery of the prime minister – who is also suffering from cancer.

This is the third time the Prime Minister has contracted the deadly virus – the first in June 2020 and the second in January 2022.
Just a day ago, Prime Minister Shehbaz returned home from the UK after a scheduled visit, marked by political consultations with Muslim League (N) supremo Nawaz Sharif. During the visit, leaders of Muslim League-N including Khawaja Asif also accompanied him.
He was earlier supposed to reach the country but his plan was postponed after his health deteriorated. Family sources said he extended his stay in London twice as “his hectic schedule took a toll on his health”.
According to sources close to the Sharif family, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif developed a fever before leaving for the airport on Saturday and his family advised him not to travel, so he rescheduled his flight home on Sunday.
Earlier, the Prime Minister attended the COP27 meeting in Egypt, where he interacted with world leaders and pleaded Pakistan’s case for climate justice.
As news of the prime minister contracting the virus spread, well-wishers – including journalists and politicians – prayed for his recovery.
