ISLAMABAD: In a major development, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly on Thursday decided to end the facility of free Hajj for ministers, bureaucrats, Khaddams and VIPs.

Talking to journalists, PAC Chairman Noor Alam Khan expressed his determination that the NA body will end the facility of free Hajj for government officials and Khaddam.

Even the prime minister, ministers and any political figure cannot perform Hajj for free.

Meanwhile, the PAC has sought details from the concerned ministry and the Accountant General Pakistan Revenue (AGPR) within 15 days of those who were performing Hajj without spending a single penny of their own.

According to PAC, the country is burdened with debt. The poor are paying taxes while government officials are enjoying the facility of free Hajj.

The government would collect money from officers whose families performed free Hajj and then deposit the money into the national exchequer, Khan promised, calling the free Hajj facility a “burden” on taxpayers.
