Sehwan: Eighteen passengers were killed and several others injured when a bus fell into a ditch on Indus Highway near Sehwan Toll Plaza on Thursday.
Five passengers were rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital while operations are underway to evacuate more people.
Dr. Moin Siddiqui of Abdullah Shah Institute of Medical Sciences Sehwan, confirmed that five passengers are being treated. The condition of two of the injured is said to be critical.
Meanwhile, he also said that out of the 18 who lost their lives, 10 were children – four boys and six girls between the ages of 10 and 15 – and eight were women.
However, police officials claim that there were 17 passengers on board, out of which five were rescued.
After the accident, the police said that cuts were installed on the Indus Highway to drain the flood water. However, even after two months, the ditch was not filled due to which this tragic incident took place.
The devastating floods – which inundated a third of Pakistan and displaced eight million of the country’s population – are another obstacle that victims are struggling to overcome.
