ATC approved 12-day physical remand of accused in Imran Khan murder case.

LAHORE: The Gujranwala Anti-Terrorism Court on Thursday approved the 12-day physical remand of Naveed, the main accused who opened fire on PTI Chairman Imran Khan in Wazirabad on November 3 during his party’s long march.

Investigating officer Imtiaz Ahmed requested a 30-day physical remand, but District and Sessions/ATC Judge Rana Zahid Iqbal Khan granted a 12-day physical remand.

Therefore, the judge directed the convener and head of the JIT to inform this court till the next hearing to investigate and fix the responsibility against the culprits.

Failing to do so, “the law will take its course,” the court said in its order.

According to the court order, accused Naveed has been named in the First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 324 (attempt to murder), 440 (subsequent mischief). Preparation to cause death or hurt under section 7 (punishment for terrorism) of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

While adjourning the hearing till November 29, the court has directed the concerned authorities to produce the accused.

On November 3, the PTI chief narrowly escaped an assassination attempt when Naveed shot from the left side of a container during a long march with the intention of killing Khan and tried to escape.

However, he was later nabbed from the spot after which an FIR was registered against him and later remained in the custody of Counter Terrorism Department, Lahore.

In the gun attack, Khan was injured by bullet fragments which injured his lower limbs.
