Austerity measures introduced in Sindh

Karachi: A notification issued on Friday said that the Sindh government has decided to adopt austerity measures to reduce expenditure.

According to the notification, petrol quota for all provincial government departments will be reduced by 40% and official dinners, lunches and high tea parties will be minimized.

In the austerity plan implemented after the approval of the Sindh Cabinet, it is imperative to reduce unnecessary expenses to ensure the rational use of public money.
The financial constraints faced by the country and the province of Sindh made conservation of resources imperative.

The notification states that the Sindh government has introduced extraordinary measures to reduce fiscal deficit to ensure judicious use of public money besides reducing expenditure.

Austerity measures will be implemented immediately.

Apart from development projects, creation of new posts, appointment of daily wages staff and purchase of office furniture will be completely banned. The cabinet has banned official visits abroad by government officials on Sindh government funding, except for fictitious visits, official lunches, dinners, high teas and foreign delegations, however with light refreshments during official meetings. Only tea will be provided.

Principal Accounting Officers will ensure that utilities consumption is reduced by 10%, implementation of reduction in POL limits by 40% in the light of circular letter issued by Finance Department dated 03-06-2022 and Avoidable travel should be reduced by promoting the use of Zoom and video links. .

The officers will also ensure the elimination of vacancies for the last three years in consultation with the administrative departments.
