ISLAMABAD: Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that the name of the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS) will be revealed by Tuesday or Wednesday.
The Defense Minister said that the process of appointing the Army Chief will start from Monday.
During the show, the PML-N leader said that the change of command ceremony would take place on November 29. He said that the day the appointment was decided, the long march would suffer a severe blow.
Current Army Chief COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa is set to retire at the end of this month and has rejected an extension of his tenure.
‘Will Follow PM’s Advice’
A day ago, Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar met the President of the State Dr. Arif Alvi and conveyed a special message to him regarding the appointment of the new Army Chief and ending the deadlock on the country’s constitutional issues.
President Alvi also said that he will follow Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s advice regarding the appointment of the next Army Chief.
Sources told JEE News that in discussions with his aides about the appointment of the new army chief, the president said he could not create obstacles in the much-anticipated process.
“I have no legal authority to block the Prime Minister’s advice. I have never interfered in state affairs,” President Alvi stressed.
His statement came after PTI chief Imran Khan, who has repeatedly demanded that the army chief be appointed on “merit”, said his party would sit and watch the government appoint the next army chief. Makes a decision.
Next Two Days
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the matter of appointment of the next army chief will be decided in a day or two.
“I am sure the Prime Minister has completed the process (of consultation on the appointment of the Army Chief) and he will bring it on paper today or tomorrow or the next two days, there is no time,” he said. Looks like,” he said.
“I would also request you that this is a matter of one or two days so don’t ask questions that will lead to unnecessary speculations,” he said, adding that “there is not much time left in this decision and it is up to you. will be exposed, the interior minister said.
Sanaullah said further delay in the matter would not be “appropriate” and the next army chief would be appointed in the next two days.
The interior minister also alleged that the purpose of PTI’s Islamabad march was to appoint the army chief instead of early elections. He added that the Long March doesn’t really exist anywhere – it’s only in the media.
In response, PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry said that the President will fulfill his constitutional duty when it comes to important appointments. He further said that let me make it clear that whatever decision the President takes will have the full support of Imran Khan.
