Sukkur: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said on Monday that only those in positions of power have the authority to decide who will be the next commander of the Pakistan Army.
Fazl told reporters that the PTI’s protest march has turned into a long march as it is moving slowly towards the federal capital.
The JUI(F) chief asserted that PTI Chairman Imran Khan wanted to appoint the army chief of his choice, that is why he is doing the long march. However, he said that the appointments to the top posts of the army will be made as per the procedure laid down in the constitution.
He claimed that the former prime minister destroyed the country’s economy during his three-and-a-half-year rule and is now seeking power again, which the PDM will never allow.
The PDM chief said that Khan has once again tried to destroy the country in the name of “true freedom march”.
He said that the coalition government saved the country from bankruptcy and is trying hard to fix the economic problems.
The PDM chief said that the Saudi crown prince was supposed to visit Pakistan with mega projects but Khan created obstacles by starting a march, adding that he was persuading the Saudi prince to visit the country.
Fazl further said that the allegations leveled by a person in London against PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif should be investigated as they were serious in nature.
He said that when his party went on a long march, no road was closed or traffic blocked and despite being in Islamabad for 15 days, “nothing was destroyed”.
Meanwhile, while addressing the Paigam Jamiat conference in Shikarpur, he said that JUIF will make the economic system of the country free from usury and bring reforms in the light of Quran and Sunnah.
He said that JUI (F) has called a conference of Ulemas in Karachi on November 30 to devise an interest-free economic system. JUI(F) leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari, Maulana Rashid Mehmood Soomro and others also addressed the conference.
