PM’s Office received summary of COAS, CJCSC appointments, confirmed by Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: After the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed that the Prime Minister’s Office has received the summary of appointments to two senior posts in the army.

“Prime Minister’s Office has received a summary from the Ministry of Defence,” the minister tweeted.

The defense minister’s tweet came about an hour after ISPR sent the summary to his ministry on Tuesday night.

Director General of Army Media Wing Lt Gen Babar Iftikhar tweeted, “GHQ has sent summary of CJCSC and COAS selection to Ministry of Defence, including names of six senior Lt Generals. Included.”

The ISPR’s statement came after Asif had earlier categorically rejected reports claiming that the Prime Minister’s Office had briefed the much-anticipated appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff. has been received.

On Twitter, Asif Zardari said that the Prime Minister’s Office has not yet received the summary. The PMO will receive the summary at the confirmed time.

‘Summary Prepared’
Earlier, sources told JEE News that a summary for the appointment of the new army chief has been prepared and it will be received by the Prime Minister’s Office any time.

Sources say that the names of 6 senior generals have been included in the summary of Army Chief candidates.

The summary includes the names of Lt. Gen. Asim Munir, Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Lt. Gen. Azhar Abbas, Lt. Gen. Nauman Mehmood, Lt. Gen. Faiz Hamid and Lt. Gen. Mohammad Amir for the posts of Army Chief and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. , informed sources said.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb clarified that the statement attributed to Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif regarding the summary of the appointment of the new army chief is wrong.

He said that the PMO has not yet received the summary, asking people not to speculate about it. He further said that the public will be informed as soon as the Prime Minister’s Office receives the summary.

When will the army chief be appointed?
Asif earlier today assured that the much-anticipated appointment of the next army chief would be done within 48 hours.

Asif said that the nomination of candidates for the post of Army Chief is the authority of the General Headquarters (GHQ).

Dismissing rumours, the minister said there is no civil-military tension over the issue. He said that Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa respects Nawaz Sharif.
