The former president inquired about the health of the prime minister, who contracted Covid-19 last week a day after returning from foreign trips to Egypt and the UK.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif hinted to formally announce important appointments in the next three days.

He had earlier said in a tweet that the process has already started and will be completed soon after fulfilling all the constitutional requirements.
Separately, in a televised interview, Asif said the prime minister had written to the defense ministry to send the summary and dossier of lieutenant generals eligible for the posts of chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and army chief.
He said the new army chief would be announced by November 26, the same day PTI chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan is scheduled to protest in Rawalpindi as part of his campaign for early elections. .
Asif said that the Ministry of Defense has confirmed the receipt of the letter from the Prime Minister, while the GHQ has also been informed in this regard.
Earlier there were reports that the Prime Minister’s Office has already received the summary containing the names of five eligible candidates. However, the government has denied such developments.
Later, the Defense Minister accused the media of broadcasting the news of the appointment of the new army chief without confirmation from the concerned authorities.
He said that unnecessary hype and hysteria is being created about this process. The appointment is full of speculation.
