Temperature in Karachi is likely to go up to 15°C in next 24 hours.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday predicted that the temperature in the port city could reach 15 degrees Celsius as winter approaches.

In a statement, the Meteorological Department said that the lowest temperature recorded during the last 24 hours was 16 degrees Celsius.

The PMD has also predicted that the temperature in Karachi may range from 30 to 32 degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours. Moreover, the minimum temperature can be recorded between 15-17 degrees Celsius.

The statement further said that the air humidity is 85 percent and winds are likely to blow from the northwest in the city.

In its weather outlook for the country, the Meteorological Department has said that the weather will remain cold and dry in most areas during the next 12 hours.

However, there is a possibility of fog in the plains districts of Punjab and upper Sindh during the morning hours, Radio Pakistan quoted PMD as saying.

During the last 24 hours, the lowest temperatures in major cities were as follows: Islamabad and Muzaffarabad 6 degrees Celsius, Lahore 13 degrees Celsius, Peshawar 8 degrees Celsius, Quetta zero, Gilgit-1 and Murree 4 degrees Celsius. Stayed.

Next two months
According to the Meteorological Department’s outlook for the rest and the next two months, the country is expected to experience less than normal air pressure and weak La Nina conditions.

It said overall that the country has a trend of normal to below normal rainfall with maximum negative departure in the northern half.

North Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan may receive less than normal rainfall while South Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh are expected to receive near normal rainfall during the forecast period.

“Temperatures are expected to be above normal in northern parts of the country, slightly above normal in western to southwestern parts and near normal in eastern parts with a trend towards below normal overnight temperatures in southwestern parts.” , the Outlook document states.

Possible effects

  • A gradual decrease in temperature is expected during the forecast season.
  • Dry conditions during the beginning of the season will be favorable for harvesting of Kharif crops in the country. However, rabi crops especially wheat in early/vegetative stages will require intermittent irrigation for healthy growth.
  • Dry conditions will have a negative impact on the air quality index in urban (southern and central Punjab) areas of the country.
  • Dusty winds will also blow in southern areas of Punjab, Upper Sindh.
