According to JEE News, a 14-year-old boy in the Indian city of Pune was arrested by the police after he openly proposed to a 13-year-old schoolmate on social media.
Hudapsi police reported that the boy, who is an eighth-grader, clicked pictures of the girl and collected them to make a video for social media. He posted the compilation on social media and asked the girl to marry him.
The youth also threatened the girl with “serious consequences” if she refused to befriend him, officials told JEE News.
When the girl came to know about the video, she informed her parents, after which they filed a complaint at the local police station. The parents were concerned that the minor girl was taking her as his wife and posting her pictures without consent.
Arvind Goklay, senior police inspector of Hudapsar police station, said that exams were being held in the school to which the youth belonged. Goklay said the boy’s parents have been informed and action will be taken after the exams are over.
“We have issued a notice to the boy’s parents and asked them to come to the station after the exams,” JEE News quoted him as saying.
“Then we will produce them before the Child Welfare Committee and they will take necessary action,” the official added.
The incident took place on November 17. The parents filed the complaint on November 21.
This is not the first time that a boy in India has threatened a girl while proposing. There have been numerous incidents where girls have been killed or severely harmed by youths for refusing to marry.
Some time ago, a woman in Jharkhand was set on fire by a man whom she refused to be friend. A man who set a 19-year-old woman on fire was seen smiling after being arrested by police.
The woman, a college student, initially survived with burns over 90 percent of her body but eventually succumbed to her injuries.
According to a statement, the victim gave a hard time to an executive magistrate, who called him a week ago and asked him to be his friend. When she refused, he threatened to kill her.
