Lahore: As the election fever heats up, Pakistan Peoples Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari will camp in the political capital to focus on the party’s affairs in Punjab and efforts to revive it for the upcoming general elections.
Sources said that the former president will arrive in Lahore on a three-day visit on Monday, the aim of which is to invest heavily for the strengthening of PPP in the province.
Zardari, who is a key ally of the Muslim League-N-led ruling coalition, has accused the allies of mobilizing political forces against the ruling PTI-PML-Q alliance in the province and developing a vote-killing strategy. Will also consult with for elections.
He will also meet Pakistan Muslim League (Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. Apart from this, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who is on a two-day official visit to Turkey is likely to reach Lahore on his return home.
Asif Ali Zardari is also expected to meet the Prime Minister during his stay in Lahore. Apart from this, PPP leaders will hold meetings with party leaders across Punjab and finalize the candidates.
Additionally, Zardari is going to choose the party chief for Central Punjab command and select other office bearers.
It is worth noting that in the recent by-elections, the PPP had gained some ground in the province after the PTI lost the seat to it – NA-157 Multan – which it had won in the 2018 general elections.
The party won a huge number of votes during the elections.
