General Sahir Shamshad Mirza assumed charge of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) in a grand ceremony held at the Joint Staff Headquarters Rawalpindi on Sunday, the army’s media wing said.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Mirza was saluted by the armed Joint Guard on his arrival at the venue. He also reviewed the Guard of Honor and the March Past.
Apart from a large number of serving and retired officers of the three forces, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee also participated in the ceremony.
General Mirza took charge after former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General (retd) Nadeem Raza hung up his shoes a day ago.
General (Rtd) Raza retired on November 26 after 41 years of illustrious military service.
General Mirza was notified to the CJCSC earlier this week after President Arif Alvi signed the summary and approved the appointment.
“President Dr. Arif Alvi has promoted Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza HI (M) to the rank of General with immediate effect and appointed him as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee from 27 November 2022. President Lt. Gen. Syed. Asim Munir has been promoted HI. (M) with immediate effect to the rank of General and posted as Chief of Army Staff with effect from 29 November 2022,” a statement issued by the President’s Secretariat said. I was told.
It further stated that promotion and appointment are made under Article 243 (4) (a) and (b) and Article 48 (1) of the Constitution of Pakistan. Both the Articles are to be read with Sections 8-A and 8-D of the Pakistan Army Act, 1952.
Besides General Mirza, General Asim Munir has been appointed as Pakistan’s next Chief of Army Staff (COAS), the outgoing COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa will retire on November 29.
