KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon on Sunday admitted the negligence of the police in the high-profile Parveen Rehman murder case.

While giving an interview, the IG said that the police was negligent in the Parveen Rehman murder case, we are going to appeal against the decision.
IG Nabi said the police was trying to remove “defects in the investigation system” and making appointments in every department on a regular basis.
Last week, the Sindh High Court overturned the life sentences awarded by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) to the accused for Rehman’s murder, citing insufficient evidence.
After the court’s verdict, Rehman’s family decided to appeal in the Supreme Court against the acquittal of the five accused.
Meanwhile, Memon also spoke about the recent incident in Karachi where a policeman was shot dead by a citizen who, after fleeing to Sweden, released a video saying that he Shot in “self defense”.
“The killing of a policeman in Defense [Housing Authority Phase 5] is also a police training issue. We have completed work on e-tagging of suspects. The matter is now with the Cabinet sub-committee.” IG Sindh further said that e-tagging will help in keeping track of the suspects.
Memon further informed about the Safe City project in Karachi that an authority has been established for this project. “The first phase of the project is in progress to build a prototype.”
He further said that high resolution cameras will also be installed at all toll plazas in the province for which work is in progress.
“Uninterrupted power supply is essential to operate the cameras for which work is in progress,” IG Sindh said in an interview.
