Islamabad: The amendments made to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 2000 by the PML-N-led coalition government have benefited more than 90 percent of cases, including high-profile cases, from which the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was dealing with. NAB while giving details of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s cases informed the Supreme Court that the case related to illegal allotment of 1400 kanals of government land near Lal Sohanra National Park will be affected by the recent amendment as the amount involved in the case is less. 500 million rupees.

Besides, the investigation against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar regarding illegal appointment of CEO of ZTBL in violation of Nationalization Act 1974 will be affected.
Investigation against the Federal Minister of Railways under section 4 (2) (b) (d) (e) and 9 (a) (vi) of the NAB Act will also be closed.
The NAB has also told the Supreme Court that the inquiry against PTI leader Shaukat Ali Yousafzai for alleged abuse of power as KP Information Minister will be affected as the amount involved in the scam is less than Rs 500 million.
Similarly, the inquiry against PTI active member and former health minister Aamir Kayani for misuse of powers and obtaining financial benefits through dishonest and illegal methods by making drug pricing policy of section 4(2)(a) of the inquiry. will be affected. The NAB has also stated that the inquiry into the crime of hoarding of assets against former PTI Minister Khusro Bakhtiar, Makhdoom Hisham Khan Bakht and other family members will fall under Section 4(2)(c) of the First Amendment. .
The inquiry against PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur for the crime of assets beyond known sources of income is affected under Section 4 (2) (A) of the National Accountability Act, 2022.
The inquiry against JUIF chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman will be closed as the property in the name of the accused in the case is of small amount and in the light of the new amendment act it is very difficult to connect benamidars.
NAB has also told the Supreme Court that the inquiry in the disproportionate assets case against Public Accounts Committee Chairman Noor Alam will be affected as the amount in the case is less than Rs 50 crore.
Following the order of the Supreme Court, NAB has submitted a list of all the corruption cases that will be affected under the new amendments in the NAB law.
According to the report, under the new amendments of NAB, 755 cases in the inquiry stage and 292 cases in the investigation stage will be affected.
Of these, 510 cases have an amount of less than Rs 500 million and will be affected by the amendment of Section 5(o) of the NAO 1999 by Section 3 of the National Accountability (Second Amendment) Act 2022.
Some 168 cases are related to the offense of assets in excess of income under Section 9(a)(v) while some 213 cases are related to the charge of assets in excess of income under Section 9(a)(vi) which is new in NAB. will be affected under the amendments. The law will similarly affect 89 cases related to cheating.
Furthermore, NAB informed the Supreme Court that the inquiry against Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on the charges of approving Kent Housing Society and acquiring occupied land of private individuals and cheating the common people by misuse of powers is affected under the recent amendments.
