ISLAMABAD: Under Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA), electricity rates for K Electric (KE) customers have been reduced by 2.15 per unit for October. However, this will not apply to Lifeline customers, users of less than 300 units and vehicle charging stations.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday notified the FCA change after a public hearing to study the proposed reduction of KE.

The hearing was presided over by Nepra Chairman Engineer Tauseef H. Farooqui, in which Nepra members Engineer Maqsood Anwar Khan and Engineer Rafiq Ahmed Sheikh participated.

According to Nepra’s notification, in its application submitted to the regulator, K Electric sought a reduction of Rs 7.83 per unit under the FCA for the first quarter (July-September) of the financial year 2022-23. Apart from this, K Electric had also requested a reduction of Rs 1.88 per unit under the FCA.

However, after crunching all the available data, the regulator calculated that the reduction under the FCA was actually Rs 2.15.

According to an estimate, consumers will get relief of Rs 3.59 billion due to this FCA.

Nepra officials said that K-Electric generated electricity from its own resources at a cost of Rs 32.96 per unit, while the price of power purchased from CPPA was Rs 12.1 per unit.

During the hearing, Chairman NEPRA inquired as to why diesel power was generated in October and whether the authority was informed in advance about diesel power generation.
