ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: Senator Azam Swati on Thursday approached the Supreme Court to transfer all the cases filed against him in Sindh and Balochistan to Islamabad for his controversial tweets against senior army officers.
The petition was filed by his lawyer Babar Awan, in which the Federation, the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Inspector General of Sindh and Balochistan were made parties.
Azam Swati said in his petition that the federal agency arrested him in a false case. He further said that many cases have been registered against him in the country.
Swati added that she faces security threats when appearing in cases filed against her in different parts of the country.
In such a situation, the senator requested the Supreme Court to order that the cases registered against him in Sindh and Balochistan should be consolidated and transferred to Islamabad.
The senator also appealed to the court to stay the proceedings of the “FIRs” registered against him pending the hearing of his petition.
“The petitioner has invoked the constitutional jurisdiction of this Hon’ble Court on a question of great public importance and to transfer all the FIRs to a single venue/jurisdiction to enable the petitioner to defend himself effectively. sought treatment for,” the petition said.
Yasmeen Rashid filed a petition against Swati’s arrest.
On the other hand, PTI leader Yasmin Rashid filed a petition against the arrest of Azam Swati in the Supreme Court Lahore Registry, calling it illegal.
Rasheed claimed in his petition that the senator was arrested on political grounds.
The petition said that action should be taken against those responsible for Azam Swati’s arrest.
It added that his family was ill-treated and a notice should be taken against this act. Also asked to ensure the sanctity of the house.
The PTI leader also said that women would protest against Home Minister Rana Sanaullah’s mistreatment of women.
“We hope that the Chief Justice will give us justice,” she said, adding that she would also file a petition against JUI(F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Arrest of Swati.
The PTI leader was arrested from his farmhouse in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad last week for speaking against senior military officers again on Sunday.
On the same day, he was produced before a magistrate who granted Senator Swati’s two-day physical remand.
The senator was again produced in court on Tuesday and his remand was extended for another four days.
