After five years, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ishaq Dar returned home with the daunting task of steering the country’s economy in a ‘positive direction’.

He is expected to be sworn in first as a member of the Senate and then as the federal finance minister on Tuesday.

After landing on Pakistani soil at Noor Khan Air Base, traveling with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Dar’s first words on home turf reflected the magnitude of the task ahead.

He said that I will try my best to get Pakistan out of the current economic quagmire. The country’s next finance minister and playing to get the country out of the economic doldrums known as “Daronomics”.

And his track record is one that Dar did not forget to mention after landing in Islamabad.

Dar had gone into self-imposed exile in England following the Panama Papers revelations and subsequent successful prosecution of cases against ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Officially, he went to London for treatment. Subsequently, when he was declared a fugitive by the court, his passport was revoked, and his name was placed under passport control – which Dar claimed prevented him from obtaining a passport to travel to Pakistan. Stopped.

But with the roadblock resolved recently, Dar also withdrew a plea from the Supreme Court and approached the Accountability Court, which issued arrest warrants against Dar and initiated proceedings to declare him a fugitive. , they should not be arrested because they were interested in it. Dar says that the case against him in the accountability court is a political vendetta rather than a case targeting his alleged tax evasion.

Dar is expected to be the first to take oath as a member of the upper house of parliament, a ruling party source said. He will then take oath as the country’s new finance minister.

Both the events are expected to take place on Tuesday (tomorrow) as Federal Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has already tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister in London ahead of Dar’s upcoming arrival.

Earlier speaking to the media before returning home from London, Ishaq Dar said that the case against him was false, reiterating that he had never delayed filing his income tax returns.

He said that thanks be to God that I am returning to the same office I left for my treatment.

Ishaq Dar further said that the period the country went through in four years is not hidden from anyone, we need to manage our economy and bring it in the right direction.

He said that I will take all steps to improve the declining economy.

On the other hand, former Prime Minister Imran Khan called the return of Dar as the result of the deal.
