ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s High Commissioner (HC) to the UK, Dr Muhammad Faisal, made a surprise visit to Islamabad on Friday and met Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar.

Sources say Dr. Faisal’s visit was unexpected after the envoy’s meeting with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in London earlier this month.

He said that the diplomat had a detailed meeting with Prime Minister Kakar. However, the purpose of their visit and meeting was not shared with the media.

A source in the Ministry of External Affairs said that Dr. Faisal, who was earlier Pakistan’s ambassador to Germany, went straight to London to take up his duties as High Court in the UK after his appointment.

The sources further said that he did not take any briefing from the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister as soon as he assumed charge, that is why Dr. Faisal came to Pakistan.

It should be noted that Dr. Faisal had recently assumed the post of the country’s High Court in the United Kingdom on August 2.

One of his major official engagements as High Court was a meeting with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo in the British capital.

The details of this meeting were also kept private and it was described as a mere court meeting.

Yes, there was a meeting. Mr Nawaz Sharif has been our Prime Minister three times, and we extend such courtesy to all former Prime Ministers,” said a Foreign Office source.

It said it was a courtesy call to the former prime minister which was a routine affair.

Dr. Faisal is a seasoned diplomat with three decades of experience in Pakistan’s Foreign Service. He joined the Foreign Service in 1995 and has held various posts at the headquarters, including Deputy Director, Director General and Spokesman.
