Airbus is accelerating the testing of new wing technology for the next-generation aircraft, using the latest technology and world-leading demonstrations to further improve the performance of its wings.

The development comes as Boeing is researching a long, ultralight concept called Transonic Truss-Braced Wings.

Airbus is investing further in its UK innovation capabilities, with the opening of a new Wing Technology Development Center (WTDC) at its Fulton site on Wednesday, the planemaker announced on its official website.

“The facility, which will be used to build and test demonstrators for a number of programs and research projects, was inaugurated by Nusrat Ghani, UK Secretary of State for Trade and Commerce,” it added. said

The new facility will help Airbus accelerate the design, construction and testing of next-generation aircraft wings by using the latest technology and world-leading demonstrators to further improve the performance of its wings.

Along with engine optimization, making wings longer, leaner and lighter will improve fuel efficiency, reduce CO2 and ultimately drive the aviation industry to net zero carbon emissions by 2050, the aerospace company said. is one of the greatest opportunities to work for the ambitions of

“The new Wing Technology Development Center will help us bring our research to life. A key element in how we deliver technology for next-generation aircraft wings,” said Airbus head of Fulton site Sue Partridge. Through Wing of Tomorrow (WoT), our largest team-led research and technology program in the UK.

“Last week, we achieved a major milestone in the program when our second wing demonstration team completed and delivered it to WTDC in Broughton, Wales. Here it underwent structural testing at our Aerospace Integrated Research and Technology Center (AIRTeC). will be prepared for,” the official added.

The WoT program allows Airbus to explore new manufacturing and assembly technologies so that future generations can continue to enjoy flight.

“It’s about developing digital and physical capabilities for our people, technology, industrial systems, supply chain and next-generation aircraft. We’re leveraging industry partners and the best digital tools and automation to deliver technology. to identify potential bottlenecks that could slow us down in the future. The foundations we are laying now will help us become better and faster when the time comes,” the official statement added.
