ISLAMABAD: In a surprising development, two legal experts on Tuesday met Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Atta Bandial and discussed important legal issues with him.
It is learned that Barrister Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Barrister Sardar Latif Khosa met Chief Justice Bandial in his chamber.
During the meeting which lasted for more than an hour, the two senior lawyers apprised the Chief Justice about the important constitutional petitions filed in the Supreme Court which are of utmost importance regarding the fundamental rights of the citizens and especially the supremacy of the Constitution. A source close to the development told The News.
It is further learned that Barrister Aitzaz apprised Justice Bandial of a constitutional petition challenging the trial of civilians by military courts and urged the Chief Justice to take up the matter in the Supreme Court as soon as possible.
Sources say that in the meeting, Sardar Latif Khosa also told the Chief Justice that he had rejected the decision of the Balochistan High Court to reject the request to declare the FIR null and void by naming former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the murder case. An appeal was also filed against Advocate Jameel Kakar in Quetta
It should be noted that Barrister Aitzaz had challenged in the Supreme Court the decision to try the civilians involved in the events of May 9 in the military courts established under the Pakistan Army Act 1952 in the Corps Commanders meeting on May 15. He has filed a petition in the Supreme Court under Article 184(3) of the Constitution through Sardar Latif Khosa and Advocate Salman Akram Raja.
Meanwhile, the Registrar’s Office on Tuesday allotted Diary No. 14180 to a petition filed by Aitzaz Ahsan, challenging the trial of civilians in military courts.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sardar Latif Khosa had filed an appeal in the country’s apex court against the Balochistan High Court’s June 15 order, dismissing Imran Khan’s plea to quash the FIR and killing of the lawyer. Nomination was requested in the case. Jameel Kakar Quetta. He requested the Supreme Court to decide the matter in the week starting from June 19.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan visited the residence of Sardar Latif Khosa to express solidarity with the senior lawyer after the firing incident at his house in Lahore. Later, Latif Khosa while talking to the media said that he will file an appeal in the Supreme Court on behalf of Imran Khan, demanding that the FIR filed in the murder case of advocate Jameel Kakar in Quetta be quashed.
