Akshay Kumar once spoke about how cinema needs restructuring and his interview is resurfacing as Priyanka Chopra comes in with her experience in Bollywood.
He addressed all that has been going wrong with Indian cinema over the years. “What’s happening, I think, is that things have changed. The audience wants something different. That’s what we should think we should sit down and try to give them. It’s our fault,” he said. No, it’s the audience’s fault that they’re not coming. We have to give them what they want. That’s what we have to rethink.”
He continued, “We have to scrap what we’ve made and start all over again. Think about what kind of cinema they want to see. I want to start in a completely different way. And so do I.” What has happened during the pandemic is that their choices have changed rapidly.
Then, concluding his statement with a possible solution, he said, “There are many other things that need to be done not only by actors but also by producers and theaters. I will tell you that I Want to reduce our prices by 30-40%. Theaters need to understand that this is also a time of recession. Audience has limited money to spend on entertainment. You can’t spend that much on it. Everything has to change.”
He added, “And it’s not just theatre. We have to work on my cost, the cost of making the film. Everything needs to be addressed.”
