A local court in the federal capital on Sunday handed over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur to the police on one-day physical remand in the terrorism and sedition case against him and sent him to the Anti-Terrorism Court. Ordered to submit. Tomorrow’s Terrorism Court
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police on Saturday took the former federal minister into custody from the Dera Ismail Khan court a few days after he was arrested in the city in separate cases registered at Golra police station in the federal capital.
Today, Islamabad police produced Gandapur in the duty magistrate’s court.
At the beginning of the hearing, the prosecutor told the court that Gandapur had to be tested and the police had to collect evidence.
While reading out the details of the FIR against the PTI leader, the prosecutor said that Gandapur mentioned a plan to attack Islamabad in an audio related to the case. He said that the former member of the assembly threatened to collect weapons to fight against the police.
“This was a part of the attack on the judicial complex,” the prosecutor said, adding that all the offenses in the FIR were serious in nature and non-bailable.
He argued that the accused could be remanded for 90 days.
On this, the magistrate inquired that the prosecution has demanded a 15-day remand.
The prosecutor said that was the minimum term he had requested.
On this occasion, the lawyer of Gandapur, Babar Awan, started his arguments. He said that the date and time mentioned in the FIR are of utmost importance, while it does not mention the police or the person responsible.
“The complaint states that [the complainant] was sitting in his house when Ali Amin’s audio was broadcast,” Awan said.
He said that this has not happened for the first time because audios of Maryam Nawaz and former Chief Justice have also come to light.
Babar said the policeman who felt “threatened” after Gandapur’s speech did not even register a case. He also said that the PTI leader should not have been produced in this court as it was a terrorism case.
The lawyer then requested the court to acquit Gandapur from the case.
“I am ready to listen to his [Gandapur’s] speech, but first the police should answer my question. Was the TV switched on at Golra police station where the case was registered,” he asked.
Awan also asked about the progress of the investigation as Gandapur was under 24-hour police custody.
The lawyer requested the court to remand the PTI leader for only 24 hours so that he can be produced before the ATC.
On this, the court granted only one day’s physical remand of Gandapur and directed the police to produce him at the ATC tomorrow (Monday).
