AMA’s Tribute to Chris Brown’s Canceled Michael Jackson

Chris Brown’s AMA cancellation apparently had nothing to do with it.

The American Music Awards production company has broken its silence on the drama surrounding Chris Brown’s performance that was scheduled to take place during the ceremony on Sunday night, November 20, 2022.

On Monday, November 21, 2022, in a statement to Entertainment Tonight, a DCP spokesperson clarified that the tribute was a matter of creative direction and not Brown’s fault.

“Live shows change all the time, that’s the nature of this business. Unfortunately, that element of the AMAs didn’t come together because we couldn’t coordinate on the performance, through no fault of Chris Brown.

On Saturday, November 19, 2022, Brown took to Instagram to post a video from rehearsal showing the singer performing a lengthy routine, which was supposed to be a tribute to the legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Brown wrote on her IG that her set was canceled by organizers, claiming “they canceled me for unknown reasons.”

“Chris Brown isn’t here tonight, so I’m accepting this award on his behalf,” Rowland said before responding to some boos and unintelligible screams from the audience.

“Excuse me, relax,” he continued. “But I want to say to Chris, thank you so much for making great music, and I want to say thank you to him for being an incredible actor. I’m going to bring this award to you, I Love! Congratulations, and congratulations to all the nominees in this category.” This was followed by more unintelligible shouts from the audience.
