Appeared before JIT ‘despite knowing terror case is a joke’: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Complying with the orders of the Anti-Terrorism Court, PTI Chairman Imran Khan finally appeared before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) of the Islamabad Police at a public hearing in Islamabad on August. He is on trial for allegedly threatening Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry during the rally. 20.

On August 20, Imran Khan was booked for terrorism under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act for making controversial remarks against a Sessions Judge and a senior police officer.

Earlier, the PTI leader had been avoiding the JIT despite receiving a third notice of appearance by the JIT probing terrorism charges against him.

On September 12, prosecutor Raja Rizwan Abbasi informed ATC judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hasan that the PTI chairman had not yet joined the investigation.

During the proceedings, the ATC judge ordered the prosecution and Khan’s counsel to decide where and when to be part of the investigation and extended the PTI leader’s interim bail till September 20.

However, Imran Khan recorded his statement before the JIT at the SSP office in Islamabad.

Speaking to reporters after appearing before the JIT, PTI Chairman Imran Khan criticized the coalition government’s alleged failure to control the economic crisis and said that Pakistan is following in the footsteps of Sri Lanka.

He said that free and fair elections are the only solution to the economic crisis. Imran Khan criticized the government for playing politics amid floods and harassing party donors.

“They are trying to destroy my party,” Khan said and warned that the government could not tolerate his protest call.

He said that he can negotiate with the government only on the subject of free and fair elections.

In response to a question about appearing before the JIT, Imran said that the case has become a joke in front of the world.

“I appeared before the JIT even though I knew it was a joke,” he added.
