It wasn’t that long ago that Arsenal were being written off as contenders after suffering an injury crisis this season.
What a difference a few weeks make. Now they are firmly in the hunt for three trophies.
A superb first-half performance against Bayern Munich on Wednesday saw them overturn a 1-0 league deficit and book their place in the Women’s Champions League semi-finals for the first time in a decade.
It has been an impressive month for the Gunners, who ended their four-year wait for silverware by beating Chelsea in the League Cup final on March 5.
“It has been my long-term goal to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League,” said manager Jonas Adewale. “This is an incredible achievement that we are very proud of.
“I told the players before the game that our performance in the League Cup final told me we have the ability [to win] when we get things done. That doesn’t mean it’s easy and We can do it every time, but only if we have it. Wouldn’t it be incredible and beautiful to bring him into the competition as well?”
Buoyed by a North London derby victory over Tottenham at the weekend, Eidevall’s side were roaring with intensity at the Emirates and blew Bayern away with two superbly worked goals.
They can now look forward to the European semi-finals – and with seven games remaining just three points behind WSL leaders Manchester United, winning three trophies is not out of the question.
“Process is really important and results create conviction,” Adewale said. “It means that what you’re doing, when you win a football match with it, you’re more inclined to do it again.
“This month has given us [results] and hopefully that creates a lot of confidence as well.”
