The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a two-day bank holiday on Tuesday on the occasion of Ashura.
“The State Bank of Pakistan will be closed on 28th to 29th July 2023 (Friday to Saturday) on the occasion of Ashura (9th and 10th Muharram 1445 AH) due to public holidays,” the notification issued by the central bank said, after which banks will remain closed on Sunday.
The sacrifices of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala will be remembered across the country on Ashura Day, 9th and 10th Muharram, 28th and 29th July.
The federal government has declared public holidays on 9th and 10th of Muharram.
The Sindh government has also banned double-riding on 9 and 10 Muharram – under Section 144 of the CrPC – several steps have been taken to ensure that activities on the days of Ashura continue uninterrupted.
In addition, the federal government approved the deployment of armed forces across the country to ensure security during the holy month of Muharram.
