Home Minister Rana Sanaullah on Monday said the assemblies may be dissolved before the August 13 deadline to give “facilitation” to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

In response to a question about the ruling party, he said that if the assemblies are dissolved on August 11 instead of August 13, the ECP will have more time for elections. There will be time’. Postponing the elections until November.

He asserted that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) and its supremo Nawaz Sharif are clear that the assemblies should be dissolved and elections held on time.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) dissolved Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in January, while the legislatures in Sindh and Balochistan, as well as the National Assembly, are yet to be dissolved.

The anchorperson then asked the minister if the delay in the dissolution of the assemblies was meant to “facilitate the ECP or politics” to issue verdicts in cases against the PTI chief and Nawaz after his expected return. Time should be found for the election campaign.

Sanaullah’s statement came at a time when the last 30-day countdown to the end of the current parliament’s term ends and the government’s term begins this week and the provincial assemblies of Sindh and Balochistan as well as the national The term of the assembly is set to expire on August 12.

After the dissolution of the assemblies, the caretaker setup will take over the government affairs in Islamabad, Karachi and Quetta.

Similar interim administrations are already in place in Lahore and Peshawar since the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies were dissolved months before their terms expired in January.

However, he added that the 90-day period does not mean that the ECP will hold elections on the 90th day but can do so on any date of its choosing, “whether it is after 64 days or 72 days.” After the day”.

Nevertheless, he assured: “Assemblies will be dissolved after completing their term, followed by a caretaker set-up and elections as per the constitution.”
