Attacks on military installations are intolerable: Army Chief

Rawalpindi: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir on Monday said that the recent attacks on military installations and martyrs’ memorials were extremely sad and intolerable incidents. Addressing a military honors ceremony organized in honor of martyrs and ex-servicemen at the General Headquarters (GHQ) here, he said that martyrs and veterans are a valuable asset and pride of the armed forces. He announced to celebrate Martyrs’ Day on May 25.

The COAS said that “Pakistan Army as an institution always remembers every individual associated with it and their families and its relationship as a family was proud and unmatched”. General Asim Munir awarded military honors to the officers and men of Pakistan Army for their bravery and outstanding service to the nation during various operations against enemy elements. A total of 51 officers were awarded the Tagha Imtiaz (Military Star of Distinction), 22 officers and jawans were awarded the Basalat Medal and two jawans were awarded the United Nations Special Medal.

General Asim said that the nation is living in a free atmosphere due to the great sacrifices of its martyrs. COAS further said that undoubtedly we are living in a free atmosphere due to the sense of duty and great sacrifices of the martyrs. He said that every soldier and officer of Pakistan Army gives priority to his duties and responsibilities beyond regional, linguistic and political prejudices and distinctions. He said that a strong army is the guarantor of the country’s security and unity. A large number of senior officers of Pakistan Army and families of martyrs participated in the ceremony.
