A woman with cerebral palsy who claims she was abused as a teenager by Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter filed a civil lawsuit against the singer in the United States on Thursday.
Shannon Roth, now 39, said the singer forced her to perform oral sex on a tour bus after a show in 2001, and then raped her.
Attorney Mark Boskovich said in a virtual press conference that Ruth, then 17, was standing in line for an autograph after a Backstreet Boys show in Tacoma, Washington, when Carter called her on the bus.
“He gave her a funny-tasting drink they called VIP Juice,” Boskovich told reporters. Then “Carter took her to the bathroom of the bus and asked her to sit on his knees, and he pulled down her pants and exposed her private parts while ordering (her) to perform sexual acts on her. “
Ruth, who was a virgin at the time, cried throughout the ordeal, Boskovich said, but Carter stood her ground. “Carter took (her) to a bed in the back of the bus. He pushed her onto the bed and began raping her despite her pleading.
After the sexual assault, Ruth, who is also autistic, said she would tell people what happened. “He grabbed her arm and hurt her and yelled at her,” the lawyer said, adding that Carter had called her “persistent” and said “no one would believe her.”
Roth, who has waived the right to anonymity customary for sex crime victims, wept openly during the 30-minute press conference. “Even though I am autistic and live with cerebral palsy, I believe nothing has affected me more or had a more lasting impact on my life than what Nick Carter did and said to me,” he said. said
The civil suit, filed in Las Vegas, seeks unspecified damages from the singer, whose hits as a member of the Backstreet Boys include ‘I Want It That Way’ and ‘Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)’. Included.
Carter, 42 – who had previously faced unproven claims of sexual assault, which he denied – also assaulted three other women, the lawsuit said. The three were not named, but Boskovich said lawyers have spoken to them.
Carter’s representatives did not respond to JEE News requests for comment.
There was no mention of the lawsuit on Carter’s Twitter or Instagram accounts, which featured tributes to younger brother Aaron, who died last month.
Entertainment website TMZ has denied the claim, citing an unnamed source close to the singer. “This allegation is completely false. Nick is focusing on his family and mourning his brother’s death,” the site quoted sources as saying.
