Balochistan’s Former Chief Justice Kharan was Killed in the Attack.

Former Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court Muhammad Noor Maskanzai has been killed in an attack in Kharan district of Balochistan on Friday.

Kharan SP Asif Haleem said that preliminary information suggests that he was seriously injured in the attack and has been shifted to a local hospital in critical condition.

However, he later confirmed that the former chief justice of the province succumbed to his injuries.

Miskanzai was shot at least four times in the stomach by the assailants, the officer added.

No further details about the attack were immediately available.

Who was Miskanzai?
66-year-old Muskanzai was a resident of Kunri area of ​​Kharan district of Balochistan.

He was born in the area after partition in 1956. He received his primary education from a government school in his native Kanari. Interestingly, this school was started by his father Dr. Maulvi Muhammad Qasim Aini Baloch as the first private school in the district. The school, though, was nationalized in 1951-1952.

After matriculation in Kharan, he went to Quetta for further education. During his Bachelors at University of Balochistan he wrote a thesis: “Democratic Concept of Educational Administration”.

He then completed his law degree from University Law College, Quetta in 1979-1980.

After graduating, Mascanzai began his legal practice in September 1981. In his private practice, Miskanzai worked as a legal adviser to Customs in Makran Division and Makran Scouts in Turbat.

He was also a member of the Panel of Legal Advisors of PTCL Makran Division.

In 1998, he served briefly as Assistant Advocate General of Balochistan. During Musharraf’s tenure, he was elected Vice Chairman of Balochistan Bar Council. He was subsequently elected Chairman of the Executive Committee twice.

He held these positions until his appointment as Additional Judge of the Balochistan High Court in September 2009, and was confirmed as a Judge of the High Court on 11 May 2011.

In December 2014, he was promoted to the post of Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, replacing Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mengal.

He retired from Balochistan High Court in 2018.
