Bayern Munich kicked off the Thomas Tuchel era with a stunning win over his old club Borussia Dortmund that lifted them above their der Klassik rivals to the top of the Bundesliga.
The first goal was a strange one as Dewitt Apamecano played a long ball from his own half which goalkeeper Gregor Coble dropped into his own net.
Thomas Müller then scored twice and Kingsley Coman the fourth.
Emre Can scored from the penalty spot and Donnell Mellon added a late second for Dortmund.
Those goals delighted the league’s former leaders, who never saw the game.
Bayern could have won by as much as Erik Maxime Chopo-Motting and Serge Gunbary had efforts ruled out for offside.
The Munich giants sacked boss Julian Nagelsmann after they fell behind Dortmund in the table and turned to Tuchel, who managed their rivals from 2015 to 2017.
And his side were in control from the moment Coble raced out of his box and whipped an attempted clearance through the ball to Leroy Sane from Apimecano.
Sane ran with the ball to make sure it crossed the line without touching it.
Müller then scored his sixth and seventh der Klassikker goals – only three players have scored more in that match.
He bundled in Matthijs de Ligt’s flick-on for his first. Sane had his second rebound after saving a shot.
Koeman’s second-half volley from Sane was Bayern’s 40th Bundesliga goal against Dortmund in the last six seasons.
Kane scored a penalty after fouling Jude Bellingham and half-time substitute Malone found the net late on as Dortmund made the scoreline more respectable.
The win moves Bayern clear of Dortmund, who are two points clear at the top, as they seek an 11th Bundesliga title in a row.
The result ended Dortmund’s unbeaten run of 10 Bundesliga games in 2023.
