NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will back Pakistan’s hybrid model for the 2020 Asia Cup, according to JEE News report, amid controversy over the mega-event’s status. .
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi has proposed to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to address Indian concerns over not coming to Islamabad for the mega event.
However, some members of the council agreed on the hybrid model but the BCCI is still reluctant to come clean on the matter.
JEE News report said that the BCCI would not support Najam Sethi’s proposal, which would have four opening rounds in Pakistan and two Super Four games with matches from India and the final at a neutral venue. Will be.
ACC chairman Jay Shah, who is also the BCCI secretary, made the Indian board’s position clear during informal talks with some members of the continental body in Ahmedabad, Indian news agency said. .
The final decision in this regard will be taken by the executive body of ACC, a meeting of which is expected soon.
Due to their poor political relations, bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan is suspended and they only play each other in multi-team events.
Pakistan has threatened to boycott the October-November World Cup in India if it is forced to host the entire Asia Cup in another country, the United Arab Emirates.
