QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Tuesday ordered that no further cases be registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati, who is facing allegations of abusive language against army officers in his tweets.

A two-member BHC bench comprising Justice Kamran Khan Malakhil and Justice Aamir Rana passed the order on a plea to drop the cases against Swati.

The petition was filed by PTI leader’s son Usman Swati.

Apart from this, the court has also asked the police chief for a written report of the cases filed against the ailing Swati.

On Sunday, a Quetta court handed over Swati to the police on five-day physical remand in the case. The PTI member of assembly was arrested by the Balochistan police from Islamabad and brought to Quetta.

At the time of his arrest, he was already on judicial remand in Adiala Jail, after being detained for the second time in connection with a controversial tweet on November 27. Then he was transferred to Quetta under the transit remand obtained by the police.

Controversial tweets cases
Several cases have been registered across the country for tweeting controversial tweets against Army officials on Swati.

He was first arrested in connection with a controversial tweet on October 14, when he posted a highly hateful and threatening message against the army chief, judiciary and other state institutions on his official Twitter account.

In this case, the senator got bail.

But on November 27, the FIA arrested him once again for using abusive language against senior army officers, including the former army chief.

The PTI has been condemning her arrest and “torture” in custody, while Swati also approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) fearing “custodial murder”.

Her latest arrest by the Balochistan police was condemned by PTI chairman Imran Khan, who claimed that Swati was taken from the Quetta police hospital despite “severe chest pain and difficulty breathing”. and transferred to an undisclosed location “at risk to their lives”.
